Stream of semi-consciousness

We live in profoundly stupid times. Whether or not these times are any more stupid than other times is up for debate.

For some reason I get Columbus Day off from work. I'm pushing to swap that day with Cesar Chavez Day. Seriously.

I was having some beers with friends yesterday who are new comers to Colorado. I made some off-hand comment about the parade and protests that used to come with every Columbus Day and they stared at me blankly. It dawned on me that things have been remarkably quiet on the Columbus Day front for the last 2 years. 2008 was the 100th Anniversary of Columbus Day in Colorado and we were the first state to officially recognize it as a holiday.
