3 weeks out...

and Sarah Palin is headed to West Virginia

The McCain campaign is apparently trying to stave off a complete landslide on November 4th.

There is no way the Republican ticket should be spending time in West Virginia this close to the election. No way, that is, unless they are in mortal danger of losing the Mountaineer state. If they really are in danger of losing West Virginia then all of this talk of 360+ electoral college votes for Obama isn't as far-fetched as it once seemed.

West Virginia isn't alone, Obama is competitive in a number of states that have been reliably GOP in the past. He's trailing slightly in Indiana, a state the Dems haven't won since LBJ's landslide in 1964. He's slightly ahead in Virginia, which like Indiana hasn't gone blue since 1964. Obama is even tied in North Caroline which hasn't voted Dem since 1976.

I know that the Obama camp has felt that they could be competitive in Virginia but I don't think in their wildest dreams they thought they would be so close in the other three. This election really does have the potential to be a paradigm shifting event.
