Today in Red Rocks history

Yesterday, July 7th, the Grateful Dead played their first ever show at Red Rocks in 1978.

21 more shows would follow over the next 9 years with July 8, 1978 show (that would be 30 years ago today) being the most popular amongst Deadheads.

You can listen to a stream of that show here.

It's a great show at a time when the band was still in their famed 1977 groove. They were less a nimble jazz band than in 1974 and were now a steam locomotive, rolling down the tracks. Check out the non-stop tour de force that begins 1/3rd of the way through the 2nd set.
