It's bush league psych-out stuff, man

Karl Rove gave an interview to GQ magazine recently in which the following exchange occurred,

I get the sense you respect Hillary more than you respect Obama.

Off the record?

Please don't go off the record.
Off the record... [Yeah, it's good. Sorry.]

Damn! Now say that on the record.
No. Nope. Nope. Nope.

To which Kevin Drum maddeningly responded,

You may now let your imaginations run wild.

I can't tell you how much this burns me up. Do not let your imaginations run wild, that's exactly what Rove wants. Every few months he appears in public or gives an interview where he delivers some tantalizingly cryptic message in the hopes that Democrats will read it and drive themselves mad trying to decipher some meaning. In other words, letting your imaginations run wild is exactly what Karl Rove would like us to do.

He has no magical insights. He is not a political genius. He has "won" elections by delving to ethical depths that no one else would dare go to. He's playing a psychological game with Democrats and I really wish Democrats would stop enabling him. Especially Democrats who are smart enough to know better and are in positions of sizable influence, like say a blogger for a large and influential national magazine.

He's full of shit and should be ignored.
