Channeling the Fat Man

Al Gore,

"But the basic facts are incontrovertible. What do they [global warming deniers] think happens when we put 90 million tons up there every day? Is there some magic wand they can wave on it and presto! -- physics is overturned and carbon dioxide doesn't trap heat anymore?"

That's actually a line of argument that has proved very useful for me when discussing this issue with climate change denialists. It usually goes something like this,
Strip away all of the numbers and let's get to the basics...
  1. 1. It's an incontrovertible fact that we emit tens of millions of tons of carbon every day.
  2. 2. It's an incontrovertible fact that carbon traps heat
How is it possible that we have been emitting carbon at ever increasing rates since the industrial revolution and yet that carbon has had no impact on the climate or environment?
The conversation usually comes to an abrupt halt right then and there. The denialist wants to obfuscate, don't let them.
