Sully on healthcare

Andrew Sullivan,

Yglesias uses USSR data to advocate for nationalized healthcare. Those who have never experienced socialism have no idea what they are asking for.

I would retort that those who have never experienced being uninsured, losing insurance for your spouse and children all the while facing bankruptcy because of medical bills have no idea the kind of hell that a medical crisis can create in this country. Or maybe they do and they simply don't care. Six of one...

We get it Andrew. You have some irrational fear of guaranteeing everyone in this country access to basic medical care and financial protection from the crushing debt of medical bills. If you had ever once made an affirmative case defending the status-quo health care system in the United States maybe people would take you seriously. Instead you simply sit back and lob ideological hand grenades at people who would like to right one of the great injustices left in this country. In this debate you never engage with the data or the actual arguments of health care reformists. You offer nothing but your pithy quips.

Frankly it's embarrassing that a man of your intellect can offer absolutely nothing of substance (unless publishing hit pieces in TNR counts?) on a topic of such great public importance. Furthermore for someone who demonstrates so much compassion on a host of other topics for you to be so crass, so cold and so obviously unconcerned about the plight of tens of millions of American families is despicable.
