The constant, oppressive consciousness of her identity - racial and gender - and the harping on it so aggressively so often does strike me as a classic mode of victimology deeply entrenched in her generation.
The total lack of self-awareness in that statement is striking. Andrew Sullivan is complaining about someone's else "consciousness of... identity."Andrew Sullivan.
In the last 12 hours Sullivan has no fewer than six posts about gay rights issues. Sullivan is of course a leading crusader for gay rights and one of the few conservative voices on the side of basic human rights in that debate. He should be applauded for his work on those issues. But he also shouldn't be so quick to criticize others about being conscious of their identity.
