Getting dates is a lot easier when one is economically secure than it is when one is not. Dating coaching is not a luxury purchase. Instead, it is essentialy a way to compensate for actually undesirability economically, by learning how to lure people who don't actually want what you have to offer with your intangible dating skills.

It is the social equivalent of a marketing campaign touting that butter has no sugar, or that cigarettes have no calories.

More directly, it has similarities to the evolutionary strategy of trying to look like a poisonous creature, even though you yourself are not poisonous. You are learning to fake "mating displays" that are usually associated with more fit mates, rather than actually becoming more fit.
