Colorado Attorney General John Suthers has changed his mind and will run for re-election as Attorney General in 2010. Pols has the press release.
Suthers is, in my mind, the only credible state wide candidate that the Colorado GOP has right now. He had his choice, he could run for Governor or Senate and either way he would have been a formidabble opponent. Inexplicably he has chosen neither.
Former nativist Congressman Tom Tancredo and former gubernatorial "candidate" Bob Beauprez are both expected to run for the U.S. Senate seat. Both also happen to be political laughing-stocks. In the Governor's race it appears that Grand Junction state rep Josh Penry is the current front-runner for the GOP though he has yet to announce and his viability as a statewide candidate is fairly suspect.
Michael Bennet and Bill Ritter are both walking around with broad smiles today, courtesy of John Suthers.
