Brad Jones doesn't understand how elections work

This is amusing. Brad Jones of Face the State whining that Colorado's government workers have voted to organize themselves through a union,

The story gets even nastier when you look at the election results. State law
doesn’t even require a majority of employees to participate in an election to
unionize in order for the election to be valid. In this case, less than a
quarter of employees voted “yes” for union representation, but that doesn’t stop
the vote from becoming binding on everybody – whether they voted or not.

The fact that a great percentage of people choosi not to participate does not invalidate an election is a basic precept of any democracy and yet it seems to deeply offend Jones. This is surprising. It's almost as if he's not familiar with the electoral process in the United States. We have federal, state and local elections every year in which a majority of voters choose not to participate. This does not make the elections or their results invalid. We choose Senators and Congressman in primary elections with significantly lower turnout than we saw in the recent state employee labor elections. Where are Jones' post whining about those wins?

Presidential elections routinely see only slightly more than 50% of eligible voters particpate, off-year Congressional elections fall well below 40%.

Jones is obviously grasping here. He wants to bash unions but his article contains nothing that could be considered a bad action or bad outcome as a result of state employee organizing. He's flailing and desperate and the best he can come up with is an incoherent charge against the elections legitimacy.

Sheer buffoonery.
