Due to a fit on insomnia I've been up watching the television for hours and knew of this missile test some time ago. Just now (7am Mountain Time) I logged into my Google Reader expecting to confront a pile of hyper-ventilating and kvetching over this missile test and found... nothing. It hasn't even been mentioned on the blogs I read, yet. I imagine that will change as the morning progresses and new details emerge but for the time being I'll just kid myself and pretend that this means that we are seeing a new maturity emerge in our national discourse.
My reaction is sort of a shrug at this point. Do these tests violate international law or treaties? Have we known that Iran possessed these specific missile types?
Given the over-heated rhetoric coming from John McCain, Joe Lieberman and, at times, Barack Obama and others this test is hardly a surprising step. It's a pretty logical and rational action on the part of Iran to flex their muscles a bit given the rising bellicosity directed at them.
It will be interesting to watch how McCain and conservatives react to this news. To his credit Obama has appears to have a taken a cautious line this morning. I'm certain we'll hear plenty of screeching from the usual suspects before the morning is over.
