Betsey Markey you have your first campaign ad
The House voted 274 to 137 yesterday to extend unemployment benefits by 13 weeks. This bill will cost $1 billion a year for 10 years. For reference the entire U.S. budget is over $3 trillion a year. In terms of Federal spending this bill is an absolute pittance. For average Americans who are struggling to keep up with skyrocketing fuel costs, escalating food costs and the pinch of mortgage payments though this extension may buy them enough time to keep their house and find that next job.
49 Republicans voted for H.R. 5749 yesterday. Not a single Colorado Republican voted for this bill (Tancredo abstained).
Thank you Marilyn Musgrave for clearly demonstrating for all voters in the 4th CD that when push comes to shove you will always vote against America's working families. There is no "new" Marilyn. Try as she might to makeover her image and distance herself from her hate-mongering Bush-loving record when she is presented with an opportunity to vote for a little relief for average Americans she simply refuses to do it.
It's an absolutely indefensible and heartless vote in this time of economic hardship.
