Is Olmert an appeaser?

By the standards of today's Republican Party it would appear so,

Syria and Israel announced Wednesday they had begun indirect peace talks through Turkish mediators, relaunching negotiations broken off in 2000...

Olmert's administration had revealed contacts between the two countries last month, saying then that Israel was willing to return the Golan Heights to Syria as part of a peace deal between the two countries. Officially, Israel and Syria have been at war since the creation of Israel 60 years ago.

It's interesting that those who live in danger of attack every day of their lives are willing to sit down and have talks with their enemies. Whereas those in no immediate danger expend so much effort desperately attempting to raise tensions and prevent any negotiations. It certainly makes one wonder what their true motivations might actually be.
