Restoring voters voices

That's the phrase Rep. Cory Gardner (R-Yuma) used in the paper today to describe the GOP's latest attack on the will of the voters, this time in regards to Mill Levy freezes.

"This is our effort to say, 'This is unconstitutional. Let's restore the voter's voice,' " said Rep. Cory Gardner, R-Yuma, one of the proposed amendment's sponsors.

George Orwell would be proud. The voters who will be affected have already voted to de-Bruce. Only through a very bizarre and narrow interpretation of the language in the school finance act did those votes not take effect. The will of the voters has been completely usurped for years. Now that the legislature has acted to enact the results from the votes that have already occurred the Colorado GOP is tying themselves in knots to disenfranchise voters in 175 individual school districts.

The Colorado GOP has enslaved themselves to a far-right ideology. Fortunately voters have turned them out of office in droves since 2004. Yet, people like Cory Gardner still cannot see the forest through the trees and continue to wage these battles on behalf of far-right ideology.

This attack on the Mill Levy freeze is simply dishonest and frighteningly undemocratic. "To Hell With the Voters" seems to be the official motto of the Colorado GOP. They are not interested in what local communities have decided to do with their local property taxes, they are not interested in rescuing the state budget from footing so much of the state education bill. They are only concerned with serving the interests of the far-right.
