Libertarian Party of Colorado: Propositioning underage kids, a-okay?

The official blog of the Libertarian Party of Colorado has a post up entitled "Innocent question lands guy in jail" Being a bit of a civil libertarian myself this piqued my interest. What could this innocent question be? Oh my...

GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. — A Fruita man is free on $7,500 bond after police say he solicited a child for prostitution.

Larry Dean Davis, 45, was arrested and jailed Friday. He was released Sunday.

The LP blog comments,

So it sounds like this guys “crime” was asking someone if they wanted to trade sex for money. Not that the trade ever happened, not that he tried to coerce anyone. He made an offer that was refused. I will let you all decide if you think asking someone an inappropriate question should be a crime, but it is something we should think about.

This is disturbing. I'm open to debate about the merits of legalizing prostitution, among consenting adults. That the Libertarian Party of Colorado would suggest that Mr. Davis is in prison for merely "asking someone if they wanted to trade sex for money" when, in fact, that someone is a child is simply astonishing. If they want to debate the issue of prostitution they should go ahead and do that, this post (as written) is beyond the pale.
