Holding office comes with responsibilty

Apparently Rep. Karen Middleton needs someone to remind her of this.
During one of the most important weeks of the legislative session, the Colorado state House’s most junior member is vacationing on a beach in Puerto Vallarta with her family for Spring Break, according to her husband, Larry Beer’s, status on the Facebook social-networking site

I'm not planning on making it a habit to cite the right-wing website Face The State when they are trashing Democratic lawmakers, but when they are right they are right. Last week the state House was debating the budget (known as the long bill) and Middleton should have been there.

Middleton of course took office a few weeks into session after Rep. Garcia resigned. I'm sure this trip had been long planned and would not have conflicted with her past job on the state school board. However, when she took over for Garcia she was accepting a role with increased responsibilities.

Too funny. Let me check and see if the state school board is having their monthly meeting down there.

While it's not YOUR responsibility to watch where they are while they're supposed to be working - WHO'S is it? You are SPOT ON noting her absence. Well done!

absenses like these need to be cleared by the House Majority Leader and the Speaker. I suppose they could have forced her to attend but perhaps, assuming she was an adult and aware of her responsibilities, they left the ultimate decision up to her.

Pretty shameful to miss the budget debate - it's probably the most important week of the year in the legislature.
